“An anchor for your soul”
In this life there is a nonstop flow of reasons to lose your peace. It’s because this world is a broken place and we are people who deal with a broken nature. We default on gravitating towards reasons to lose our peace.
Some of us who like to be in control of everything (raising my hand) could easily lose it when confronted with things that are out of our control. We must all come to grips with the reality that there is much in life that we will never be able to control with our own hands. This is why God gave us the most incredible gift. It’s called “peace that is greater than understanding.” That means that circumstances don’t have to be peaceful for you to have peace.
The peace the Bible is talking about is not a feeling; it’s a person, The Prince of Peace. This means that no matter where you are or what you’re going through, if you have Jesus with you, you can have peace, because He is Peace.
A boat can keep floating as long as the water that is outside the boat doesn’t get inside the boat. To keep from getting tossed around and capsized in a storm, a boat needs an anchor. The Lord and His Word in your life is an “anchor for our souls.” When we grab ahold of Him and keep ahold of Him, His sustaining protection will allow us to experience peace in any situation.
